finally, the dry spell is over!

Well, the dry spell is actually in full swing, but we actually got a fire today! Five weeks to the day since my last fire. That's one of the longest dry spells I've ever experienced....here's hoping the fires keep popping up so we get to work the long weekend :)

i heart slacklining

Walking the line

Doubles slacklining - this only lasts about 5 seconds, but we're working on it.

Ooo, getting fancy

And getting rejected

Beavis getting up from sitting

Brett - the latest slacker

In Memory

Fort St. John lost an amazing person last week. Joel Wuthrich, a high school friend, was killed in an accident with a drunk driver on his way home from work. Over 500 people attended his funeral today - a testament to how well-liked he was by everyone who was lucky enough to know him. No one could say enough good about him. He was always smiling, laughing, dancing, chatting - a truely happy person. He will be dearly missed.

big sky country

last night on my marathon drive home from Victoria at around 2am, I saw the most intense skyscape that i could possibly imagine:

off to my left, the sun was just below the horizon and the sky was a beautiful bright blue with only the brightest stars still visible.

directly above me, the sky was clear and black with bright yellow stars and moon.

straight ahead and to the right, an intense electrical storm filled black clouds with bright flashes of orange light and chains of lightening.

and above the storm clouds, which were low to the horizon, vivid green northern lights danced across the sky.

it was everything that i love about the big sky in the peace country all at once. amazing.

oh, to inappropriate drunkeness

I drove all night on Friday to get to Victoria for Rob's high school reunion on Saturday. Ok, I didn't really go for the reunion - I went just to see Rob, who was there for his reunion, and so I found myself all gussied up in fancy clothes at a fancy banquet at a fancy golf course. And I hadn't slept in almost 40 hours.

So while Rob re-uned with all his past classmates, I clung tightly to a beer mug and sipped it nervously, tying hard to listen (or at least pretend to listen) to a bunch of inside jokes that I didn't understand told by a bunch of people I didn't know. And I sipped and sipped, bought another beer, and kept on sipping.

After a few hours, my lack of sleep and all of my nervous nobody-to-talk-to beer drinking had me a few sips away from dancing topless on the speakers. Which I think would have been really funny. But Rob didn't, so I put the rest of my energy (which was really starting to lack about this time) into keeping both feet firmly planted on the floor and both eyes fixed on whoever was speaking. And I think I actually pulled it off.... or at least I managed to stay on my feet all night :)
